Radiation takes only 15 minutes a day. I did have another consultation with the doctor to check on how I’m holding up.

There’s not a whole lot to report yet. Other residents of the Lodge say that as time goes on the effects of radiation accumulate and you feel more drained and start to have stronger side effects.

So far, I still feel good, and every day that I do, I count as a real blessing, helping me on the way to getting through the whole thing.

Spring is trying to break out, and I took a long walk this afternoon. The warmth and sunshine felt invigorating.

This evening at supper another group volunteered to cook us dinner. I’m getting spoiled, and losing too much weight has not been a problem for me yet.

We also welcomed back the folks who returned from a weekend at home, and some of the new people who are just arriving and settling in to begin their treatments.

At St. Joseph's Indian School, our privately-funded programs for Lakota (Sioux) children in need have evolved over 90 years of family partnership, experience and education. Because of generous friends who share tax-deductible donations, Native American youth receive a safe, stable home life; individual counseling and guidance; carefully planned curriculum based on Lakota culture and individual student needs and tools to help build confidence, boost self-esteem and improve cultural awareness. All of this helps children to live a bright, productive, possibility-filled future.

  9. Hi Fr. I have some ideas for you. I am not a nutritionist but I am a student of nutrition and Chinese Medicine. And,they seem to feel that cancer is an anaerobic condition–cells flourishing without oxygen–plus being aided by a too-aciditic environment. So, the Chinese medicine proponents would suggest laying off aciditic foods–meat, dairy, oil, coffee, bakery products, any pastas, sweets, no fruits either and instead, loading up on vegetables (alkaline for the most part), grains like brown rice, buckwheat, and proteins like beans and legumes (grains and beans are also aciditic but are just packed with nutrition. The reason why sweets are a no-no is because sugar feeds the cancer cells. You can get your “sweets” from carrots, squash, sweet potatoes (but no white potatoes as they convert to sugar, likewise corn products.) Meals should be 80% alkaline, 20% acid, according to Chinese Medicine. There’s an old saying, “Let medicine be your food, food be your medicine.” Also, nix negative thoughts. This stuff works. Good luck.Nancy
