At our Tuesday night potluck all the people who’ve arrived in the last week stand up and introduce themselves. Anyone who is finishing their treatments and is preparing to go home also gets the chance to impart a few words of wisdom to the group.

Bob, from Nevada, was here for over two months. Because of distance, he didn’t get to go home on weekends. But, he made the best of his time and leaves with many new friends.

He advised all of us to get out of our rooms and down to the common areas, where you meet folks from all different backgrounds and professions. One of his favorite new friends was the man who vowed to make at least 5 people smile every day – and usually easily accomplished that by lunch time.

We are our brothers and sisters’ keepers, and caring for one another is what we’re made for.

We are our brothers and sisters’ keepers,
and caring for one another is what we’re made for.

At St. Joseph's Indian School, our privately-funded programs for Lakota (Sioux) children in need have evolved over 90 years of family partnership, experience and education. Because of generous friends who share tax-deductible donations, Native American youth receive a safe, stable home life; individual counseling and guidance; carefully planned curriculum based on Lakota culture and individual student needs and tools to help build confidence, boost self-esteem and improve cultural awareness. All of this helps children to live a bright, productive, possibility-filled future.

  1. Farher Steve-
We enjoy reading your updates daily. Wish that these were available when I was having my treatments. (That didn’t come out quite right because I do not wish the treatments on anyone!) The comments and experiences are very interesting and we do pray all works out for you.

After my treatment was finished the local hospital started up a 2x week meeting for all cancer survivors. I learned more going to those breakfast meetings than from any other source.

    All the best- Joe

  2. YOU..are one of the best..!
Yes,we are all our brothers and sisters keepers..! How easy that is to forget, though , sometimes. Thanks for the reminder !
You keep on punchin’ ..and we will keep prayin’..and you will be sprung from that joint in no time..!
Mean while, learn some new dance steps..and beware of wooden Nikkles..!
    Hugs..
    Mia and Bob
