Piles and projects … recovery and recuperation

But I have gradually been chipping away at piles and projects, and have been making long term progress … even if I don’t see it day-to-day. Sometimes recovery and recuperation is like that too.

Today we had to get everything off the floor before leaving the office for the weekend because the carpet cleaners will scrub the building on Saturday. It’s a sign that summer is ending and the 2010-2011 school year is close at hand.

My office has been disorganized since the surgery; with even more piled on the table and desk, it really looks unmanageable. But I have gradually been chipping away at piles and projects, and have been making long term progress … even if I don’t see it day-to-day. Sometimes recovery and recuperation is like that too.

At St. Joseph's Indian School, our privately-funded programs for Lakota (Sioux) children in need have evolved over 90 years of family partnership, experience and education. Because of generous friends who share tax-deductible donations, Native American youth receive a safe, stable home life; individual counseling and guidance; carefully planned curriculum based on Lakota culture and individual student needs and tools to help build confidence, boost self-esteem and improve cultural awareness. All of this helps children to live a bright, productive, possibility-filled future.

  1. Just take it one day at a time. I keep after my office all the time. I am a neat freak…so, if it gets out of hand I have trouble with it.
I’m glad to see you doing so well. A close friend’s kids start school in Georgia today! Seems way to early to me..

  2. This is so exciting to hear!
Just the thought of cleaning, or, moving forward to the next step; in this manner, is showing recovery……;in ALL areas of life. It is so Wonderful that things are moving forward, and that thoughts of TOMORROW, TOMORROWS’…; is/are, in our minds. This is GREAT healing, and Progress to all, and wonderful for us to hear.
GOD BLESS, and LOVE TO ALL’-

  3. Your office sounds about like mine and I don’t have the excuse of illness! But I try to clear out a little at a time, day to day … so maybe one of these days. But it’s hard for me — I’m like Joe Holmes: a neat freak, and this state of clutter is very “discombobulating”. Things don’t slow down, however, so all I can do is take little steps. But that’s how a journey starts, isn’t it: little steps. Keep on keeping on, Fr. Steve!

  4. Dear Fr. Steve,

We know what you’re going through. Things have backed up alot around here too. It’s hard to keep on top of it all and try to follow Dr.’s orders all at the same time.

Litle by little is the only way to get things done for us. Eventually, it will get done. If not done then down to a minimal pile which is more managable.

Hope this year is a good year for the children, the staff and most of all for you. You continue to be in our prayers.

God Bless you and the school in the coming school year.

    Take care,

    Nancy & Kenny

  5. Do you suppose that IF and when we get to Heaven we will need to clean house.? Maybe those souls in purgatory will be sent to do it..? Or maybe angels who are between assignments…?
    Probably none of the above…
    Love and Blessings..
    Always,
    Mia and Bob
