Staff update on Fr. Steve

Fr. Steve and his family are so grateful for the many prayers and thoughts during this difficult time. I’m sure he will be happy to see his brother and his family when they visit from Chicago this weekend.

Fr. Bill here again …

Fr. Steve’s recovery continues to go well … praise be to the Lord. This morning he was up for the first time, took a few steps and was able to sit in a chair for a short while. He still cannot eat anything but ice chips and drink a little water. Needless to say he is not talking much because of his dry mouth.

Fr. Steve and his family are so grateful for the many prayers and thoughts during this difficult time. I’m sure he will be happy to see his brother and his family when they visit from Chicago this weekend.

Prayers and blessings to you for your interest in Fr. Steve’s recovery.

At St. Joseph's Indian School, our privately-funded programs for Lakota (Sioux) children in need have evolved over 90 years of family partnership, experience and education. Because of generous friends who share tax-deductible donations, Native American youth receive a safe, stable home life; individual counseling and guidance; carefully planned curriculum based on Lakota culture and individual student needs and tools to help build confidence, boost self-esteem and improve cultural awareness. All of this helps children to live a bright, productive, possibility-filled future.

  6. I registered for your Sept powwow today. My husband thinks it’s important I show up for a visit. God willing, I’ll be there.
I explained your school to my ESL students, and we looked on a map where Chamberlain,SD
is. We ran off to the library, and now we are studying the Missouri River, Lewis and Clark, interesting national and state parks
    on the journey across,Amtrak schedules,
airport regulations…We are all very busy thinking about you and your students. This has captured their imaginations, and they are also putting together a present to give to your school:they are collecting postcards
with beautiful pictures of WA and fancy, brightly colored #2 pencils. I can’t guarantee a pencil for each one of your children, but my adult students think you all there don’t have enough glitter, metallic, dinosaur, star… pencils in your lives. They repeatedly told me,”Everybody needs a #2 pencil!Let’s give them some!” So I guess we’ve adopted you. Hope this is ok.
Be very patient with yourself after surgery.
Your sleep cycle may radically change. Go with it. Give yourself little positive tasks
to do. Find soothing music and good books for yourself. Have many positive conversations. Eat even though you might feel nauseous. Eat a little bit when you can’t eat. Laugh often and challenge yourself a little bit each day. Give thanks to God that you are still here (I know you do this)The work you and your staff do at the school is beautiful and important.
The Pacific Northwest waves to you today.
    Apparently, you are our neighbor!!!!

    Take care,
    Arian
