An Easter Message from St. Joseph’s Indian School

Students at St. Joseph’s Indian School received the sign of the cross on their foreheads during Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of Lent. The ashes serve as a reminder of faith, repentance and the journey toward Easter.

Easter reminds us of God’s presence and enduring love. It is about renewal and rebirth, forgiveness and blessings.

As the joyous season of Easter dawns upon us, we at St. Joseph’s Indian School want to take a moment to reflect on the blessings your generosity brings into the lives of the Lakota (Sioux) children. Your support is not just a gift; it is a reflection of love and hope — the very essence of Easter.

“He is not here; for he has risen, as he said. Come, see the place where he lay.” — Matthew 28:6

This powerful verse reminds us of the promise of renewal and the triumph of hope over despair. Consider the panic the people who saw the empty tomb must’ve first felt. They were likely left speechless — rubbing their eyes to determine if they could believe what they were seeing. This was after they had watched their Lord and Savior die on the cross for them — for the world.

He defeated evil and saved the world— for you, for us, for everyone. Christ’s resurrection reminds us that extraordinary things are possible. Just as Christ’s resurrection brought new life, your kindness breathes life into the dreams of our students. It helps bring the brighter future that each Lakota student desperately deserves. This act of kindness is extraordinary to the boys and girls at St. Joseph’s.

“Every good endowment and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights …” — James 1:17

We are deeply grateful for you. You are a part of our cherished thiyóšpayeextended family — who continue to walk with the Lakota boys and girls as they reach for their dreams.

May this Easter season fill your heart with joy, your home with peace and your soul with the light of God’s unwavering love. May we continue to be thankful for a God who renews and forgives. In the areas of doubt, may He fill any void with His light — the light that overcame and defeated darkness.

He is Risen.

The Lakota children at St. Joseph’s Indian School wanted to share this Easter prayer with you. We hope you read it as you gather in celebration of Jesus’ resurrection on Easter Sunday.
