Investing in Dreams: St. Joseph’s Indian School Awards $138,500 in Fall Scholarships

Thanks to generous donor support, St. Joseph’s Indian School provides higher education scholarships to Native American students!

This fall, St. Joseph’s Indian School proudly awarded $138,500 in scholarships to 86 Native American students pursuing higher education — a powerful testament to the generosity of our donors and the resilience of our scholars.

These scholarships, which were awarded to 32 alumni, 34 family members of alumni and 20 to other tribal members, are part of the St. Joseph’s Indian School Čhaŋkú Lúta Scholarship, initiated by the Congregation of the Priests of the Sacred Heart (CPOSH) Board. Čhaŋkú Lúta is Lakota for the “Red Road,” a commitment to live life in the best way possible with respect for oneself, others, all of creation and the Creator.

Each scholarship represents more than financial support. It’s a vote of confidence in a student’s journey. Awards are determined by financial need, with consideration given to returning scholars who continue to pursue their dreams. Proof of tribal enrollment, the number of applicants, academic performance and available funds also guide the selection process.

Applications are accepted for the full academic year and for each fall and spring semester. The impact is profound. From community colleges to graduate programs, these scholarships help Native American students overcome financial barriers and focus on their studies, goals and cultural contributions.

“We are fortunate to offer scholarship funding to Native scholars, which includes additional educational assistance for St. Joseph’s Indian School alumni,” said Krista, a member of the Alumni Relations team. “We are so thankful for the generosity of donors. We could not offer the scholarship program without their support! We also hope it is a reminder to alumni that St. Joe’s is here to serve as a support in educating for life —mind, body, heart and spirit.”

As 86 students step into college or trade school classrooms across the country, they carry with them the spirit of St. Joseph’s Indian School — a commitment to growth, tradition and hope. We celebrate their achievements and look forward to the stories they’ll write next.
