The intensity was turned all the way up for the staff vs. students basketball showdown at St. Joseph’s Indian School. It was clear this wasn’t going to be just a regular basketball game. Both teams came in confident, competitive and ready to prove a point.
Before the game even tipped off, the energy was building.
“I’d like to think us students are going to win,” Aleighya, an eighth grader at St. Joseph’s, said with a smile. “We aren’t going to go easy. You adults are going down!”
Not to be outdone, a staff member, Alex, responded with just as much confidence. “I think the staff is going to win! All day!”
Even Jeff, St. Joseph’s referee, had a prediction. “I think the students are going to outlast the adults, stamina-wise, so I think they will take the win.”
From tip-off to the final seconds, the game delivered on every bit of that anticipation. The Rec Center was filled with loud cheers as students and staff battled back and forth. Every possession mattered. Every basket brought the crowd to its feet. Neither side was willing to give an inch.

As the clock ticked down, the score remained neck and neck. It all came down to the final moments.
With just one second left on the clock and the game tied, all eyes turned toward Kyler, an eighth grader, as he took his position at the free-throw line. The pressure was undeniable. The gym fell quiet.
One shot.
One chance.
And our 8th grade student delivered!
The free throw sank through the net, securing a thrilling 50–49 victory over the staff and sending the crowd into celebration!

This game was about more than just the final score. It was about connection. It was about students and staff coming together, competing with heart and creating a memory that will last far beyond the final buzzer.
“The thing about tonight is that we are just here to have fun,” Jay, a student, shared.
