The U.S. Province of the Priests of the Sacred Heart in Hales Corners, Wisc., elected a new Provincial Superior. The five-member Provincial Council was chosen by the gathered assembly of Priests of the Sacred Heart following the election of Fr. Vien Nguyen, SCJ, as the 16th Superior of the U.S. Province. Among those chosen to lead the U.S. Province of the international organization were two with ties to St. Joseph’s Indian School.

Fr. Greg Schill, pictured here with two of his buddies at St. Joseph’s, was elected to the council in early January.

Fr. Greg Schill, SCJ, Chaplain at St. Joseph’s Indian School, was the third to be elected to the council. Ordained in 2010, Fr. Greg joined St. Joseph’s in July 2021. Accepting his new role, Fr. Greg vowed, “I will support Vien and the council for the interests of the Province to the best of my ability.”

Deacon David Nagel, SCJ, ordained to the diaconate in 2003 and executive director of the school from 1996 to 2004, was the fifth elected to the council. He has previously served on the council and is currently provincial treasurer in Hales Corners.

The school’s President, Mike Tyrell, said, “We are pleased that these two fine colleagues have been tapped for roles on the council. They have strong connections to us, are passionate about our mission and, in their new capacity, offer a depth of guidance and experience that will surely benefit St. Joseph’s.”

Others elected to the council include Fr. Jack Kurps, SCJ, currently executive director of Sacred Heart Southern Missions, Walls, Miss.; Fr. Rafael Querobin, SCJ, a pastoral team member at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, Houston, Texas; and Br. Duane Lemke, SCJ, superior of the Sacred Heart Monastery Community, province director of Justice, Peace and Reconciliation and member of the English and Cultural Studies Program at Sacred Heart Seminary and School of Theology, Hales Corners, Wisc.
