Nine Years Running: St. Joseph’s Indian School Honored as a 2025 Top-Rated Nonprofit

This Top-Rated Nonprofit award affirms that St. Joseph’s Indian School’s mission resonates not only with the Native American children and families we serve, but also with the broader community of supporters who recognize the importance of nurturing the whole child — mind, body, heart and spirit.

St. Joseph’s Indian School is proud to announce we have been recognized as a 2025 Top-Rated Nonprofit by GreatNonprofits, the leading platform for community-sourced reviews of charitable organizations. Even more meaningful, St. Joseph’s has earned this distinction every year since 2017, a testament to the enduring trust and gratitude of our donors and friends.

The Top-Rated badge is more than an accolade — it is a reflection of the voices of those who walk alongside us in service to Lakota (Sioux) children and families.

Christina, a monthly supporter, shared this in her November 18 GreatNonprofits review.

“I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to support the Sioux children. Their strength, spirit, and resilience inspire me more than they will ever know. It is an honor to contribute every month in even a small way to their well-being, their education, and their future. I hold each of them in my heart with gratitude and respect, and I’m thankful for the chance to stand alongside a community so rich in culture, history and hope.”

Another donor, Angeleno, reflected on the long-term impact of his support in his October 18 GreatNonprofits review.

“The chance at giving the children the opportunity to reach their potential is what this organization excels at. They reach out to a grossly underserved population and give them a chance at a life that they could only dream of without them. I have been a monthly donor for several years now and I have watched the children grow up happy, healthy and well-educated. St. Joseph’s knows how important it is to these kids and to the population in general to keep their ancient culture and language alive and thriving.”

At St. Joseph’s, we believe that education, cultural preservation and holistic care are inseparable. This award affirms that our mission resonates not only with the Native American children and families we serve, but also with the broader community of supporters who recognize the importance of nurturing the whole child — mind, body, heart and spirit.

“I like everything about this school and everything this school does for us,” said Camille, a St. Joseph’s student. “Being here, I am able to learn way more about my culture.”

Her words remind us that the GreatNonprofits recognition is not just about donor reviews, but about the lived experiences of students whose futures are being shaped here.

“I have been at St. Joseph’s for five years. I’ve had a wonderful time!” said Persais, another St. Joseph’s student. “Thank you for donating to this school. I really appreciate everything you give me.”

As we celebrate this recognition, we remain committed to walking hand-in-hand with our thiyóšpayeextended family — of students, staff, donors and friends. Together, we will continue to honor Lakota traditions, foster resilience and open doors of opportunity for brighter futures.

We extend our deepest philámayaye — thank you — to all who have shared their stories and stood with the Lakota boys and girls. This award belongs to you as much as it belongs to us.

At St. Joseph's Indian School, our privately-funded programs for Lakota (Sioux) children in need have evolved over 90 years of family partnership, experience and education. Because of generous friends who share tax-deductible donations, Native American youth receive a safe, stable home life; individual counseling and guidance; carefully planned curriculum based on Lakota culture and individual student needs and tools to help build confidence, boost self-esteem and improve cultural awareness. All of this helps children to live a bright, productive, possibility-filled future.
